Fed by her, maintained by us, Corys, Spixi Snails, Male Guppys (mostly bred by us), more to be added at a later date but slowly slow as this isnt an uber mature tank yet.

Appologies for the blue gravel, her choice not ours lol.

Observations during yesterdays clean up

October 6th, 2007 by Pam B

Both tanks looking glorious again thankfully, we noted that tank 1 (Guppys) had received another delivery of fry, as indeed had tank 2 (Micky Mouse babys) we are particulaly glad of this as she’s been looking ready to pop for the past two weeks, that said she’s still abit of a porker people would assume she’s still gravid to be honest, she’s the most dominant female in the tank (especially when foods around hahaha), so lets just say *who ate all the pies* shall we, lol. Another observation that i noticed weeks back actually but didnt have my blog is that the Green swords have had a sex change, instead of one male and two females we now have 3 males, which of course is abit of a pain if you want to breed them, let alone the disruption as each male fights his territory, i can soon see a trip to LFS (not so local really) to take two back and get two more females, whom will hopefully stay female this time.

Having gone down to a closer shop yesterday ( we use them for RO) got Adams juices flowing yesterday and i can see that in the not too distant future the 4ft tank sat in the kitchen not doing anything will soon be brought back into action as Tank 4 ROTFL, now that was supposed to be my large fish display tank (including Ornate Birchirs) but i’m sure i heard a few mumbled words along differing lines yesterday, i shall keep you informed on who wins that one, that said if he decides Discus i might let him win *winks*.

Right enough waffle, see you all soon

*Who ate all the pies* I did!!!!

News flash

October 5th, 2007 by Pam B

make that 4 batches of snails in tank 2, i did wonder why today there seemed tons more snails about, well part of the mass clean up revealed the answer, 2 batches hidden behind the internal built in 3 stage filter, and one of them hatching.

dsc02213.JPG

Excuse the cruddy picture my camera is playing me up today. What a shock that was, and we are wondering if we’ll find more behind tank 1’s internal. So after this batch has hatched thats another 5 we,re waiting on, oh my!!!!

An interesting observation on this hatch is that they are so much smaller than normal 1mm babys, litterally pin head size 1/2mm or so, i’m wondering wether its the position the batch was laid in and they dont get as much heat or light thus not promoting normal growth, time will tell how they get on after hatch i suppose as to wether its a long term effected that stunts growth post hatch.

Been a fairly quiet couple of days…….

October 5th, 2007 by Pam B

Tank wise, Snails obviously still jiggy jiggy and laying all the time, but apart from that not much going on, happy to report the Sunset fry are growing on nicely, getting more colour and getting braver, we have left both tanks unfed for a few days (bar calcium for the snails) as this afternoon its monster clean ups and partial water changes for both, both being breeding tanks they are heavy duty on the filters due to feeding regeim with the fry and keeping the mothers tip top. Both tanks have 2 filter systems, a built in internal 3 stage and also Fulval 2’s to keep them under control but i am seriously considering a third or maybe an external as i am very fussy with water and although the Swords and Platty tank is wonderfull the Guppys make a horendous mess. Observations today on the snails show some good growth spurts, the 3-4 week old babys now stand out well from the newborns, newborns are around 1mm mark and the older babies are now around 4mm and looking less like tomato pips. Another couple of months or less and some could be ready for new homes if this continues.

Oh well thats all for today, will perhaps get some more piccys tomorrow after the clean up to bore you all with.

Take care

lord above, we’ll be inundated, hahaha

2nd batch laid in the Guppy tank, so now we,re waiting on 4 batches hatching. hahahahahaha, did i mention if anyone wants Apple Snails just to PM me when they are grown on!!!! PMSL.

General observations today

October 3rd, 2007 by Pam B

While feeding and adding calcium for the snails today i was having a good look at some of the hatchlings growing on, and i think if my eyes dont deceive me i may have got some purples in there, happy bunny does not descibe how i feel about that, yippeeee. Also in the new batch i feel we have some Ivorys.

Yesterday Jennys tank received some snails, 5 Spixi apple snails (Stripped), small 1cm tops babies, i shall report there growing on progress and any breeding we have in months to come when mature (it doesnt take long)
