Updated Snail piccys for DG

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

As promised David, for the benefit of readers David is a fellow member on Fishcrazy.co.uk, no not owned by me, funny enough found the site years back as i wanted to own Fishcrazy along with obviously Reptilecrazy (as i am also into fish) but alas it was taken, and what a cracking site it is too.

Anyway enough waffle, updated growth piccys of the snails as David is having some off me when they are ready to go.

Next to the Adult, nearly ready to go to new homes as you can see.

Today saw another hatch in tank 2, bang on time bless em, looks like we have had a snow storm in there.

dsc02323.JPG

Now for observation purposes im gonna put some pictures of growth rates, here in the first picture is our first ever batch on hatch day, next to the thermometer.

Now in this second picture you can see how 5-6 weeks later those babies have grown, the smaller snails are from a hatch last week i think.

And this next one shows their size compared to a full grown adult.

1st batch hatched for Tank 1

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

incubation time of 10-11 days depending on how you count it, thats good, bang on as its normally 10-14 days.

Will add piccys to this post when i load them up.

Please excuse photo best i could do, this side of the tank is purposely never scraped so theres always natural algae for the snails, as well as wafers and pellets obviously.

News flash

Friday, October 5th, 2007

make that 4 batches of snails in tank 2, i did wonder why today there seemed tons more snails about, well part of the mass clean up revealed the answer, 2 batches hidden behind the internal built in 3 stage filter, and one of them hatching.

dsc02213.JPG

Excuse the cruddy picture my camera is playing me up today. What a shock that was, and we are wondering if we’ll find more behind tank 1’s internal. So after this batch has hatched thats another 5 we,re waiting on, oh my!!!!

An interesting observation on this hatch is that they are so much smaller than normal 1mm babys, litterally pin head size 1/2mm or so, i’m wondering wether its the position the batch was laid in and they dont get as much heat or light thus not promoting normal growth, time will tell how they get on after hatch i suppose as to wether its a long term effected that stunts growth post hatch.

lord above, we’ll be inundated, hahaha

2nd batch laid in the Guppy tank, so now we,re waiting on 4 batches hatching. hahahahahaha, did i mention if anyone wants Apple Snails just to PM me when they are grown on!!!! PMSL.

General observations today

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

While feeding and adding calcium for the snails today i was having a good look at some of the hatchlings growing on, and i think if my eyes dont deceive me i may have got some purples in there, happy bunny does not descibe how i feel about that, yippeeee. Also in the new batch i feel we have some Ivorys.

Yesterday Jennys tank received some snails, 5 Spixi apple snails (Stripped), small 1cm tops babies, i shall report there growing on progress and any breeding we have in months to come when mature (it doesnt take long)

Another Batch

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

In tank 2 (Swords) so 1 due to hatch next week and this one in 10 days give or take.

Hatch still in progress

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

This shot is 24 hours into the hacth, they can take anywhere from 24-36 hours normally. The previous shot was litterally just a few hours in, now look at the heaving mass, hehehehehe

dsc02152.JPG

You can see an empty shell caseing from a previous hatch just to the right, this couldnt be removed till these hatched, but both will be removed later in the week.

Some are now out and about, picture below is showing size difference of a tiny new one to some of those hatched last week.
